  21 Techniques & 7 Great Insights: What Do You Say in Therapy and How You Can Be More Effective for Your Patients
By Dr. Gary S. Aumiller

Learn how to identify persons with thoughts of suicide… … and connect them to suicide first aid resources.

safeTALK is a new LivingWorks programme designed to increase alertness to suicide prevention opportunities.

Why come to safeTALK?
Most people with thoughts of suicide invite help to stay safe. Unfortunately, many of these opportunities are missed, dismissed or avoided, increasing the risk of suicidal behaviour. This 1-day presentation will prepare you to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them with further help.

How will safeTALK help?
By attending safeTALK, you will become better able to:
• Move beyond common tendencies to miss, dismiss and avoid suicide;

• Recognise situations in which thoughts of suicide may be present;

• Apply the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and KeepSafe) to connect a person with thoughts of suicide to suicide intervention resources.

What happens at safeTALK training?
During the training, powerful video clips illustrate both non-alert and alert responses. Discussion and practice stimulate learning. Learn steps that contribute to saving lives. A pocket card received during training will help recall these steps when needed.

Who should attend?

  Do you ever get stuck on what to say after listening to your patients? Do you ever feel like the therapy has stalled and you are not offering your patient much new? Do you tire of building a session around “So what has happened to you this week?” Do seminars on therapy offer nothing that you can actually bring into your session? Well, this preconference workshop is for you!

Some days you are just not your sharpest, but you always have to be on when you are with a patient. Psychotherapy is a very active and evolving process, but it is also a process where sometimes you run out of words to say. This preconference workshop provides 21 proven techniques that will jumpstart your sessions at any point in the therapeutic process. Each technique can lead you to many discussions, teach your client coping skills, and boost their emotional intelligence. You will learn techniques for specific situations like the Breaking the Myth of Trauma Treatment or Ten Important Concepts for Sobriety Never Taught in Alcohol Rehab. And you will learn general concepts such as the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse of a Relationship or the Myth of Emotional Opposites. Dr. Aumiller also gives you not only the technique, but proven ways to present the theory and the research behind the technique, all while captivating your patient. And the seven great insights will give you an organization to your thinking and that can revolutionize psychotherapy for you.

You know you are a great therapist and unrestricted in your intelligence into human problems. Now you can get that across to other people and help them understand just how good you really are!
