Learn how to identify persons with thoughts of suicide… … and connect them to suicide first aid resources.
safeTALK is a new LivingWorks programme designed to increase alertness to suicide prevention opportunities.
Why come to safeTALK?
Most people with thoughts of suicide invite help to stay safe. Unfortunately, many of these opportunities are missed, dismissed or avoided, increasing the risk of suicidal behaviour. This 1-day presentation will prepare you to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them with further help.
How will safeTALK help?
By attending safeTALK, you will become better able to:
• Move beyond common tendencies to miss, dismiss and avoid suicide;
• Recognise situations in which thoughts of suicide may be present;
• Apply the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and KeepSafe) to connect a person with thoughts of suicide to suicide intervention resources.
What happens at safeTALK training?
During the training, powerful video clips illustrate both non-alert and alert responses. Discussion and practice stimulate learning. Learn steps that contribute to saving lives. A pocket card received during training will help recall these steps when needed.
