As part of its highlights, ACCOP 2010 will be featuring a number of keynote speakers, acclaimed for their work and research which has placed them at the forefront of police psychology. Do expect to hear sharings on pertinent police, forensic and criminal psychology topics such as psychology of terrorism, resilience in the law enforcement, criminal and forensic profiling as well as critical incident psychology, to name a few.
We certainly welcome you to be a part of this inaugural event by sharing your knowledge and expertise with counterparts from both the Western and Eastern countries.
This inaugural conference will be held in Singapore, a truly ‘one-stop Asia’ and a nation characterised by a harmonious blend of cultures, races and ethnicities. An acclaimed tourist hub, you will be delighted by and feel at home with the bustle of activities right at your doorstep. From the sandy beaches of Sentosa to the scenic city-view from the Singapore Flyer, and finally, to the colourful kaleidoscope of restaurants, wine bars, entertainment outlets and retail shops along Clarke Quay, countless experiences await you as you set foot in this city of hustle and bustle. We assure that you can also look forward to a gastronomic experience as you find yourselves spoilt for choices amongst the wide array of Chinese, Indian, Malay and Western cuisines!
The conference will be held at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, one of the most preferred business hotels in Singapore. Nestled next to the historical Singapore River, the hotel is also located near Singapore's prime shopping area – Orchard Road. Apart from the comprehensive range of conference facilities, a myriad of activities and entertainment await you during your conference stay. As we draw closer to the conference dates and embark on an exciting journey towards a fusion of learning, do feel free to drop us a note if you require further information on the ACCOP.
I certainly look forward to seeing you at the ACCOP 2010. Join us for this history making event!

Executive Director, SPCPNever was a group so honored as the Society for Police and Criminal Psychology when Dr. Majeed Khader asked us to co-host ACCOP in Singapore. Or did we ask Dr. Majeed if we could co-host a conference with him in Singapore? Whose crazy idea was this any way? I actually do not know and I was one of the people in the room when the question came up! I may even have been the person that suggested it, or Dr. Majeed was, or was it Dr. Brewster and Dr. Stoloff. I just do not know. But all in the room knew one thing, it was just time to make it happen. |

We have had conferences attended by professionals from every continent but Antarctica, however with the exception of two in Rome and Orvieto, they were always in the USA. Our journal accepts submissions from all over the world. The Society for Police and Criminal Psychology recognizes that police psychology is global, so we need to take our almost 40 year old show on the road.
Why Singapore you ask? First place, the food is absolutely unbelievable. With the mix of Chinese, Thai, Malaysian, Indian, and flavors from the west, the food has been called by many American food critics and TV show hosts, the best in the world. It just explodes in your mouth. Now those who have been around the Society know we like to have a lot of fun at our conferences and we definitely like to eat. So, good food is a factor.
Next, Dr. Majeed has set up an absolutely wonderful model programme in police and law enforcement psychology and all should see what he has created. They do solid research, have innovative ideas and work very hard at doing the best job they can. I personally want the world to come to Singapore and be blown away by what he has established.
Third, they are multilingual country and speak English well. I once called Singapore “Easy Asia” because I was taken with how easy the transition was from western customs. I honestly couldn’t believe that any country so far from mine could be so comfortable. In fact, my comment was that I could actually envision myself living in Singapore, and there are not too many places in this world I could say that about. It is “Easy Asia.”
But the biggest reason to go to Singapore is the people. Singapore has some of the nicest people I have ever met and I have travelled all over the world. Everyone I met in that country was nice and made me feel great, from the staff of the psychological services, to the VIPs I was introduced to, to the taxi driver who took me on a tour of the city. Everyone I met became like a friend in a matter of minutes.
So, let us learn from each other, advance our science and enjoy each other’s company in Singapore this year. Let us bridge the different worlds we are from and make friends and colleagues from around the world. Get yourself to the ACCOP.
